INTENSE PULSED LIGHT HAIR REMOVAL

What is it?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a hair removal method that uses multiple wavelengths of light to target hair follicles.

The light emitted is absorbed by the hair’s melanin, generating heat and damaging the follicle, inhibiting hair regrowth.

Unlike lasers, which use a single wavelength, pulsed light covers a broader spectrum, which can make the treatment more adaptable to different skin and hair types.

Several sessions are generally required for optimum results.

The benefits of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal include:

  1. Long-lasting hair reduction Although several sessions are required, IPL can achieve a significant and lasting reduction in hair density.
  2. Versatility It is suitable for various body areas, including the face, legs, underarms and bikini line.
  3. Less painful Compared to other methods such as waxing or laser hair removal, IPL is often less painful, with the sensation generally described as a slight tingling.
  4. Fast IPL sessions are generally fast, as the device can cover large areas of skin in a single session.
  5. Adaptability IPL devices can often be adjusted according to skin and hair type, offering a more personalized approach.
  1. Fewer ingrown hairs IPL: Unlike waxing or shaving, IPL reduces the risk of ingrown hairs, because it doesn’t pull out hairs or cut the skin.
  2. Smooth skin : By reducing hair at the root, IPL helps achieve softer, smoother skin, avoiding irritation and ingrown hairs.
  3. Less maintenance : In the long term, this treatment reduces the frequency of waxing, thus reducing the need for regular maintenance.

These advantages make IPL a popular option for those looking for a long-term hair removal solution.

Procedure and course of a PULSE LIGHT hair removal session

  1. Preliminary consultation Before treatment begins, a consultation is often carried out to assess your skin and hair type, and to discuss your medical history and expectations.
  2. Skin preparation On the day of treatment, the area to be depilated is cleansed to remove any traces of make-up, cream or oil. Sometimes, a conduction gel is applied to improve light transmission and soothe the skin.
  3. Eye protection You and the technician must wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from flashes of light.
  4. Shaving the area The area to be treated is generally shaved before the treatment to avoid burning and to allow the light to penetrate directly into the hair follicles.
  5. Device settings The technician adjusts the parameters of the IPL device according to your skin and hair type, and the area to be treated.
  6. Pulsed light application The technician passes the IPL device over the skin, emitting pulses of light that are absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This light generates heat, which damages the hair follicle to inhibit future hair growth.
  7. Sensation during treatment You may feel a slight sensation of heat or tingling during treatment. Some machines are equipped with cooling systems to minimize discomfort.
  8. Post-treatment care After treatment, the skin may be slightly red or sensitive. The application of a soothing cream or moisturizing lotion is recommended. It is also advisable to avoid exposure to the sun, and to use sunscreen for a few days after treatment.
  9. Recommendations The technician will give you instructions on post-treatment care and the number of sessions required. Generally, several sessions are required for optimal results, as IPL is most effective on hair in the active growth phase.

IPL sessions are generally shorter than those for laser hair removal, lasting between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.
